Apple’s first foldable iPhone may launch in 2026: Report

Apple is anticipated to enter the foldable device market with a foldable iPhone, projected for a late 2026 release. Industry forecasts suggest a variety of foldable gadgets with different screen dimensions, aiming at the premium market segment.

Apple is on track to introduce its foldable devices in the near future. A report by 9to5Mac indicates that the company headquartered in Cupertino has expedited its development of foldable technology, with a potential foldable iPhone release by the end of 2026.

Referencing information from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the report notes an “increased visibility” into Apple’s foldable device endeavors based on supply chain evaluations. It’s projected that Apple could start large-scale production of a 20.3-inch foldable model by late 2025.

Previous reports have also surfaced regarding Apple’s ventures into foldable technology. Notably, Apple supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo has mentioned that the corporation is developing a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook, which might debut by 2027.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has hinted at Apple’s exploration of a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid. Similarly, Ross Young, CEO and analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has discussed a 20-inch foldable hybrid device, which he believes could be introduced between 2026 and 2027.

Apple’s upcoming foldable product is designed to cater to the ultra-premium market segment.

In the most recent analysis, Pu asserts that Apple’s foldable line will be introduced as a “new category for Apple,” specifically targeting the “ultra-premium market.” The report reveals that Apple is considering two display sizes for its foldable iPhone: 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches.

Apple is also preparing for its eagerly awaited ‘Let Loose’ event, scheduled for May 7. The event will feature a showcase of new iPads and accessories, with live streaming available on Apple’s website and the Apple TV app starting at 10 am PT.

The highlight of the event is expected to be the new iPad Pro models, rumored to be equipped with OLED displays for the first time. This enhancement is anticipated to offer a more vivid and engaging visual experience compared to the existing Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED screens. The updated iPad Pros are likely to be available in the well-known sizes of 11 inches and 12.9 inches.
