Russell’s final plea to Sunil Narine: Windies will be happy if you play T20 World Cup

KKR’s star player Andre Russell has shared that he asked Sunil Narine to join the T20 World Cup 2024. Narine, who has been playing great in the Indian Premier League, decided not to join the ICC event. He stopped playing international cricket in 2023 and last played a T20I for West Indies in 2019. Before, WI captain Rovman Powell also tried to get Narine to play in the World Cup, but he didn’t agree.

Talking to Star Sports, Russell said he’s really happy for Narine, who has been amazing for KKR this season. He thanked Gautam Gambhir for using Narine well, saying that Narine wasn’t used much before.

In IPL 2024, KKR vs SRH:

Russell said, “I’m really happy for Sunil. When GG (Gautam Gambhir) returned, he wanted Narine to start batting. Putting him at No. 9 or 10 wasn’t helping us. Now, he’s got the chance and he’s doing great. Scoring almost 500 runs and taking 16 wickets shows he’s a true all-rounder. I’m very happy for him,” after KKR made it to the final by beating SRH.

He added, “GG giving him this chance was good for the team.”

When asked if Narine should play in the T20 World Cup since West Indies is hosting, Russell said he wants Narine in the ICC event. He shared that for two weeks, he and Rutherford kept asking Narine to play just for this World Cup and then he can retire. Russell respects Narine’s choice.

“If he changes his mind, everyone in West Indies will be happy,” Russell finished.
