A report from South Korea says that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 phones might use the Exynos 2500 chip. This is different from earlier thoughts that the company would only use Qualcomm’s new chips in its top phones.
The report also says Samsung is making the chip work better, and there isn’t much time left until they announce the new model after this year’s Galaxy S24. Plus, Samsung is creating a new Exynos chip for their next Galaxy Watch 7.
ZDNet Korea says Samsung is really focused on making their own chip for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series with a project named “Solomon.” The performance of the new Exynos 2500 chips hasn’t been good lately.
Industry people say that less than 20 percent of the Exynos 2500 chips were good enough to use in the second part of 2024. This was a little better than before. Samsung needs to get at least 60% of the chips right by September or October to start making them in large amounts.
The Exynos 2500 isn’t the only fancy chip from the company. They are also working on a newer Exynos W1000 chip for a project called “Sapphire.” It will take the place of the Exynos W930 that’s in the Galaxy Watch 6.
Earlier, Ming-Chi Kuo, an expert at TF International Securities, said that he thinks Samsung will put the Snapdragon chip in all the Galaxy S25 phones because the Exynos 2500 wasn’t doing well.
Right now, the normal Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Plus have the Exynos 2400 chip (but not in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Taiwan, and the USA), and the Galaxy S24 Ultra has the Snapdragon 8 chip.
We can’t tell yet if Samsung will use Snapdragon chips in every Galaxy S25 phone like they did with the Galaxy S23 series last year.
