Two mid-size electric SUVs set for launch in early 2025: Maruti and Hyundai
Electric vehicle (EV) sales are booming thanks to recent price cuts, favorable government policies and a growing range of products in different price ranges. Tata Motors currently leads the EV market with models such as Nexon.ev, Punch.ev, Tigor.ev and Tiago.ev, and plans to introduce other models such as Curvv.ev, Harrier.ev and Safari.ev. By early 2025, two of India’s largest automakers, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, will enter the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch the production-ready version of the eVX concept, while Hyundai is preparing to launch the Creta EV. Let’s take a look at the main features of these future electric SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki eVX
The final version of the Maruti eVX is expected to retain most of the design elements and features of the concept model. The EV, which measures nearly 4.3 meters long, will have a closed grille, flat hood and front panels with wider headlamps. Rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar. The side profile is accentuated by pronounced, quadrangular wheel arches, powerful shoulder lines and a roofline reminiscent of a coupe SUV. The rear incorporates connected LED lights.
Inside, the electric SUV features a dual-screen configuration that serves as both an infotainment system and instrument cluster. It will feature a floating center console with rotary knob, dual-spoke steering wheel, 360-degree camera, frameless rearview mirror and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). Built on Toyota’s 40P electric skateboard architecture, the Maruti eVX could be powered by a 60 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. It is expected to have a range of about 500 km.
Hyundai Creta EV
The Hyundai Creta EV is expected to enter production in December 2024 and reach the market shortly thereafter. Apart from some EV-specific design elements, it will closely resemble the updated combustion-engine Creta. The interior will feature an Ioniq 5-inspired steering wheel, with a gear selector behind it.
The Creta EV gets a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-trimmed interior, rear air vents, a cooled glove box and Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology. The Hyundai Creta EV could be equipped with a 45 kWh battery and an electric motor on the front axle. The car is expected to have a range of about 450 km on a single charge.
